Women`s Golf/Appropriate use of a golf putter

Question
Is a golfer permitted to hit her ball from the fareway with her PUTTER?  Do not laugh but, we have a woman in our league who insists on hitting her ball with her putter on the fareway as she will not use an iron or a wood.

It makes me NUTS!

Thanks,
Geri

Answer
Hi Geri,

Though it makes you nuts, a player can use any club in the bag for any shot. There are times when other clubs come in handy for certain situations. When a wedge or putter wouldn't do, Tiger Woods uses his 3 wd. to "pop" the ball from just off the green.

Because the putter has the flatest surface, it's usually used for the putting surface--or just off the green.

We all have a favorite club that we feel confident with...but a putter used in the fairway ALL the time? Very unusual indeed. What does she use over water, or out of the bunker?

Now don't laugh, but with the Holiday's approaching, perhaps she should think about a series of lessons as a gift idea!

Good Luck & Keep Swinging!!

Sincerely,
