Women`s Health - Lipitor and weight gain

Expert: Catherine Martin - 10/18/2004

Question
I am 64. I have not had a weight problem. I exercise regularly including light weights. Since my doctor increased the amount of Lipitor I take to 40 mg. I have noticed a weight gain. I determime this by my clothes since I never get weighed. Is it possible that the Lipitor is the cause/ And is there another medication that cold replace it that would not have the same  results.

Answer
cathryn;

well [lipitor] is for high blood cholesterol 40mgs is mostly the best for you,your cholesterol level has most likely increased,and this is an important drug at this time for you,and you need it.

do you think your weight gain is water weight?
my look into this drug,weight gain isnt a side effect at all.

i suggest speaking with your doctor about your weight.
sorry i cant do more.

catherine;
