Women`s Health/Stress Knots

Question
Hello,

I have a concern about some stress knots in my left leg.  It seems that when I go to get pedicures I get asked about the knots in my leg.  They come and go...and the only reason I know that is when they come back it's a little painful.  It hurts to rub them, so how do I get rid of them?  I've heard you should walk them out, go see a chiropractor or massage therapist.  What do you think?

Answer
'Stress knots' and 'muscle knots' are terms sometimes used to refer to what doctors call myofascial trigger points. They form after a muscle has been damaged, often by vigorous exercise. Gentle exercise will help strengthen the muscle, and massage is also said to help. If they are particularly troublesome then more formal treatment can be considered.

Lymph nodes could also cause lumps that come and go suggesting an infection. This can be a particular problem if a person has diabetes. This would be a more likely possibility if there were any noticeable blisters, cuts or scrapes on the foot - they might be infected.

If there were any concerns it wouldn't hurt to get some advise from a GP.
