Question I need to strip the stain out of a maple kitchen table because my mother wants
me to restain it a different color. What is the best way to get all the color out of
her table. and what is the best process to stain it correctly because i have been
hearing different things....
Answer Hi Brett, any good stripper should strip an oil stain from Maple. Some strippers advertise that they are better at this than others, but any good Methylene chloride stripper should do a very good job. Many stains will stain the table just fine, I prefer the Gel stains, they are thick bodied, easy to work with, minimize blotching on Maple and Pine, and have a polyurethane base making them an ideal stain/sealer in one, for a project you will use a urethane clear on. You'll need to topcoat this with a clear finish as well, for durability and added protection. What have you been hearing??
