Question We need to have a larger dining table top for the hoildays. I plan to use 3/4" plywood and cut (2)4' x 5' sections. I want to hinge the plywood so I have a 10' x 4' top. Can you recommend hinges that will do this and be a hidden a possible.
Answer Hi Delton, a "butt" type hinge will work, but they'd have to be cut into the tops from underneath to be flush with the bottom surface...and of course you're limited in screw depth so as not to come through the other side. A piano hinge could also be used, but again, has to be mortised into the wood to be flush underneath, but with a full length piano hinge, you can use the table saw or a router and straight edge to cut a rabbet along the mating edges underneath.....hope that helps- post back if need be- Greg
