Question a friend applyed min-wax oil base stain over existing stained picture frame and it wont dry (been 2 days)i understand the stain was around 10 years old i told her i would try and get her an answer--i told her to put some stain on a small section and wipe it off right away need your help on this problem the frame is also old wood picked up at a sale ty,dick
Answer Hey Dick, Minwax cannot be used over an existing finish...it will not dry properly if at all. If she wants to stain over an existing finish, after cleaned and dewaxed/degreased, she can try a Gel stain, as these are in a polyurethane carrier and will dry thoroughly and more predictably in a situation such as this. She'll want to take a rag wet with mineral spirits and wipe all the stain off the frame now and let it dry before proceeding....Hope that helps.-Greg
