Woodworking/water damage

Question
How do I bleach out the water damage around a sky light that leaked. The ceiling is T and G and I tried Oxalic Acid and it did nothing?

Answer
Hi John,   sorry for the delay in responding, I was away on vacation with no access to email.  I was not supposed to receive questions in my absence but for some reason, your question slipped through to me.

You can try hydrogen peroxide.  You will have to experiment to find the right strength to do the job. Start with a 50/50 mix of peroxide and water.  Apply it only to the darkened area as it will lighten the good wood also.  Gradually lessen the water in the mix and reapply if needed.  Please make sure to test this method in a hidden area first or on a scrap of the original wood.   Thanks for the question and good luck with your project.
