Woodworking/Warped Table Leg

Question
Hi Greg, Thanks for looking at my question, I hope you can help.

I have an older 3-legged table made of Chestnut. It appears to have been stripped many years ago and is raw, with no stain or finish showing. The table is 30 inches high. The square legs are 28 inches long and taper from 1.5 inches to 1 inch. The left leg is warped inward approximately 1.75 inches off center.

Can I do anything to reduce the effect of this warpage? Please let me know what you think. The table seems solid and does not 'wobble'.

Thank you and Regards, Ken.

Answer
Hi Ken, I'm afraid there really isn't anything you can do with a warp that bad. A good furniture maker or Cabinetmaker could evaluate it with you but the most likely fix would be to have a new leg made to fit the table, and then Antiqued and/or distressed to match the condition of the originals. I would, however put some kind of finish on the table. While I don't think it had any effect on the leg warping, it's always a good idea to finish a piece of furniture to protect it's usable life.
