Woodworking/Worm holes

Question
I have an antique French armchair (Voltaire) c. 1875.  I'm not sure what wood it's made of but it's a pretty golden color.  I've
had it for over 30 years and it needs reupholstering.  Before having it done professionally, I would like to refinish it (clean and wax it thoroughly).  I would also like to fill the many wormholes it has.  Can the holes be filled with wax?  There is also ones spot where the wood is soft.  What do I do there?  What products do you recommend?  Thank you!

Answer
Hi Gina, the soft wood can be reinforced with a product like Minwax's Wood Hardener, a clear liquid that penetrates and hardens the woods fibers. If you're going to refinish it, (or even restore the existing finish), you can fill the holes with a colored wood filler, or a wax stick that you melt into the holes and buff off like the ones available from Liberon,(after finishing).Either one would work for you.
