Woodworking/repairs to a footboard on a bed

Question
I have a footboard that has split where the bed rail attaches to it. How can that be repaired? My husband has temporarily taken a woodworking clamp to hold it together. It is not completely split but has split about 4 inches.

Answer
Hi Linda, it can be glued back together if the split is intact and the pieces all fit together....they can all be a little different, some having two metal pins to hold the rail when it's inserted, and that usually breaks at the pins. This is not the strongest of arrangements, especially if the persons in question are of larger statute, and the wood has dried out, or been loose for some time. A good glue like Elmers Carpenters glue should suffice, and clamped overnight.Hope that helps- post back if need be- Greg
