Question
Justin purchased some 23 cents stamps and some 37 cents stamps. he bourth a total of 80 stamps for a total cost of less than $25. what is the maxumum number of 37 cents stamps that Justin could have purchased?

Answer
Hi tina!

Sorry for the late reply.

Please follow my solution:

x: number of 23cents stamps
80-x: number of 37 cents stamps

.37(80-x)+.23x=25
29.6-.37x+.23x=25
29.6-25=.37x-.23x
4.6=.14x
20=x

therefore, there are 20 23cent stamps and 60 37cent stamps.
