Question
A used car dealer will make a profit on the sale of a car if the cost of the new car is less than 3/4 of the selling price. what minimum selling price will enable the dealer to make a profit on a car that costs the dealer $7200?

Answer
Hello, Stacey!

This takes a bit of Algebra . . .

We're told:  [Cost]  <  3/4 x [Selling Price]

We are given the COST, $7200

   so we have:  7200  <  (3/4)(SP)

Multiply both sides by 4/3:  9600  <  (SP)

   That is:  (SP)  >  9600

The selling price must be at least $9600.
