Question
the sum of two numbers is 18 less than twice the first number.  their difference is 32 less than twice the second number.  find each of the numbers

Answer
x + y = 2x - 18
x - y = y - 32

y = x - 18
x = 2y - 32

x = 2*(x - 18) - 32
x = 2x - 36 - 32
68 = x

y = 50

Check!

68 + 50 ?=? 2* 68 - 18
118 ?=? 136 - 18
118 = 118

68 - 50 ?=? 50 - 32
18 = 18

That's the solution!
