Question
Rachel ran an average of 30 miles this week. She ran 8 miles on Monday. How many miles did she run on average the other four days of the week?

Answer
This problem is worded funny.  If the question is:

Rachel ran an average of 30 miles PER DAY this week.

Then here is the answer.

(8 + TWThF)/5 = 30
TWThF = 150 - 8
TWThF = 142

Average of TWThF = TWThF/4 = 35.5 miles

If the question is:
Rachel ran 30 miles this week.

8 + TWThF = 30
TWThF = 22

Average of TWThF = 22/4 = 5.5

My suspicion is that the first answer is the one they are looking for.  Let me know if I can help further.
