QUESTION: I LIVE IN MOBILE AL. WORKED IN MAGEE MS. EMPLOYEE
Answer Hi Robert and thanks for writing,
As you say you were working in MS, I will assume your employer and insurance are in that state so that’s where I researched as Workers Comp rules and regulations vary widely state to state.
According to the”Mississippi Worker's Compensation - Help For Injured Mississippi Workers” (http://www.workerscompensationinsurance.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21959):Having a claim doesn't prevent termination. If you are terminated and believe it's because you filed a claim, you may file a discrimination complaint with the comp board.
Please refer to http://www.mwcc.state.ms.us/INFO/wcfacts.pdf for detailed info on MS Workers Comp regulations. For example it states “Any injury, however slight or serious, is covered if it arises out of the course and scope of employment. Occupational
illnesses and diseases are also covered if job-related, as are work related deaths.”
For further assistance you can contact the Mississippi Workers' Compensation Commission at (866) 473 – 6922.
