Expert: Margot RN BScN GNC - 2/15/2008

Question
i hurt my neck while shoveling on my job,ive done everything the company has asked me to related to going to  doctors and therapy, without going on light duty, or missing any time. my injury is a buldging disc.
my company scheduled me an app. for an spinal epideral on a wednesday at 3:oo pm , i work midnights, i went and had it done and the doctor told me no work for 2 days, to stay off my feet, my company excused the absence, but did not pay me for my 2 days off.
im in iowa by the way. there telling me i have to be off work 3 days before comp kicks in.
i know 2 guys i work with that were off just one day for comp and got paid, tell me am i getting hosed and wat can i do?

Answer
Hi Wes and thanks for writing,

According to the Iowa Division of Workers' Compensation: “the Waiting Period For Comp Benefits After Injury: 3 days (temporary total disability)” so I think they are correct.

For more assistance you can speak to the Iowa Workforce Development at (515) 281-5387 or email IWD.CustomerService@iwd.iowa.gov

I hope this helps,
Margot
