I've been through the ringer with a back injury. I eventually had back surgery and am now in the process of settling with the insurance carrier. They are sending me on one final IME. I've had some negative experiences with IME doctors. The last one, the office was shabby and unclean. And the "exam" only took about 15 minutes. I brought in 2 MRI's, reports, etc. But he hardly looked at them. Obviuosly, he was biased. Is it adviseable, in your objective opinion, to bring in an expert witness (like a Legal Nurse Consultant), my wife or friend? And, maybe, tape record the exam? I just want to make sure I get a FAIR evaluation without being intimidated. Thanks.
Answer I can relate to your situation. It is my experience to only trust my own doctor. If you are being sent to a doctor the insurance company is paying for without your input be alart. As for your wife or another person being there i dont think it will help much at this point. Your only choice of action is to pay for your own review. And if you disagree witch almost everybody does then fight them with a attorney. I am guessing that you are in Utah and the only way to get what you are intitled to is to keep the Workers comp honest. I hope this helps and you get a fair evaluation. Remimber that any records that are used to evaluate your condition or medical records are yours and you have the right to get a copy of them you also have the right once in each work comp case to choise your own doctor i would suggest your family doctor. If they choise they can refer you out from them to other doctors or test that need to be done and the doctor is aware of your past medical so you are well cared for.
