Worker`s Compensation - employees workman's comp claims are not being paid

Expert: James Saylor - 6/28/2007

Question
I work for a 120 bed nursing home in Florida.  Staff of 175-180.  Many employees have complained of having medical bills ruin their credit because the facility didn't pay workman's comp claim.  I have call the workman's comp office in my city and was told the the last record of coverage was in 2003.  After many request about coverage a small poster was posted, stating "efficive date of ..."  I am worried.  How can I verify with certainty, the facility is properly covered?

Answer
You can verify that a company is covered with by contacting the labor department. Or by calling the number listed on the work comp poster. If you cant get help there talk to the Business licensing department of your state they should have records on file.
