Question Hi, I have been on workmans comp since 09-04-07. I was changing a eyewash station at work and my back poped and pain straight down right leg. I have taken all kinds of test {mri,x-ray, etc} I am do to go into surgery next month. The workmans comp is making me get a 2nd opinion {which is fine} I booked my surgery already and my 2nd opinion isn't until dec 12th--they knew of the surgery since nov 2nd, and had to reschedule it 2 times already do to waiting for a date for 2nd opinion. I am at the end of my rope with the pain on a daily basis and living on percosets.
To find out the other day that my regular insurance is going to cancel that i get from work on the 30th unless they receive 400.00. I never thought about that insurance cause I thought the work or disability insur pays for that monthly like i did when i was getting weekley checks when i worked. Obviously I am only getting 60% of my pay and living very tight. Is their some type of insurance I can get through state and compensation to make up the other 40% difference lost and insurance. I mean I was on their time and working when I got injured It just feels like something I am missing or is it just that way {not fear}.I live in NH but work in MA.. If you can give me any info on what I can do that would be great... thank you
Answer Hi Kevin and thanks for writing,
There is insurance you can get that covers the non-payment periods for unemployment as well as some coverage to make up the missing 40% but of course you need to have paid into this type of insurance PRIOR to your injury and time off work. I do not sell insurance so I would recommend you contact people like Mutual of Omaha if you are serious about getting additional private insurance (but I warn you, it's not cheap).
I hope this answers your question for you and I wish you a speedy recovery.
