Question
Hi there

i have just started a new job and am eager to impress my boss and show that i can do a good job etc. i have never had any problems with self esteem, and in my last job, which was 2 years ago as i am a student, i was well known within the company as being very capable, and i knew also that i was doing a good job

however, in this new job i am finding that i seem to be making alot of mistakes. my attention to detail is not as good as i would like, i am very forgettful and am now having to write everything down or create a task reminder in outlook, but sometimes even this doesnt help.

i have been trying to multitask alot, and i am coming to realise that this really isnt my strong point and that i must focus on one job at a time, although i feel that multitasking is an area in which i must improve

whilst this does sound quite arrogant, i am used to excelling in most things i do, and am finding it quite difficult that my performance is average and has not really improved, despite being at the company for 4 months now

do you have any idea how i could resolve this problem? how i can work more efficiently, cut out errors, improve my memory (something which is also affecting my non-working life)and generally do a better job?

any advice at all would be greatly appreciated
thank you in advance
best wishes

Answer
Thank you for your question.  I will do my best to help, if you need more information, please let me know.

It sounds as if you have a lot of competing demands.  Keep a list, Outlook is good, but maybe a written list would be better.  Visit it everyday and keep yourself on task.  Plan your day so that you spend a bit of time each day on each of the tasks.

To help with memory, get enough rest, eat a balanced diet, get some exercise, take some time to relax, take a good mulit-vitamin, and do something that challenges your brain (puzzle, logic games, etc.)  You might also carry a small note pad with you to jot notes.

I hope this helps you!

Stacey
