Question I got an email from a company called Qwest that made it look like I had a bill with them. I never purchased anything with them. It then led me to a website for an online cable/internet company. I had no intention of entering any personal information, but it asked for a social security number which leads me to believe that this might be a fraudulent company. I was wondering if there is any recourse in reporting scammers like these to the proper authorities.
Answer Megan> Yes, it is an identity theft scam. It has been reported many times and just continues to go on.
1. NEVER give any personal information over the internet. Use telephone.
2. Don't answer any email requesting information where you have no account.
3.Don't answer any sweepstake "winner" which you never entered.
4. Ignore and delete anything you even feel may be a scam.
