Writing Books/Franchises?

Question
I've seen some writers publish novels about already existing franchises such as Jurassic Park, The Mummy, Buffy the vampire slayer or Star Wars. How does this work? How do they get the permission to do this?

Thanks!

Answer
Hello Drake,

Copyright belongs to the original author and it is this person that must be contacted. You may try to find out the agent of such persons and contact them. Either way, permission must be obtained before anything can be published using the same theme, genre, concept, characters, etc.
