Writing Books/agency info

The agency info is "submit query letter  with bio and one page writing sample of project, fiction or nonfiction"

The query is the regular query? By "bio" I thought they mean publishing history. I don't have, so skip it? One page sample--is this the first page of the book?

They CAN mean publishing history. But if you don't have one, then a "bio" should just mention things about you that are pertinent to the book. For example, if you lived your whole life in India, and the book is ABOUT India, then that's pertinent. If it's a thriller about computers, and you work at a restaurant, then that's not pertinent. See?

Yes, one page sample is generally the first page. If they ask for the first three chapters, and the first three chapters happen to be five pages, then you can either send that OR the first thirty pages. Most agents tend to mean either three chapters or thirty pages. But for a one page, then yes---the first page. If you're one of those who drops down a third of the way on the page for a chapter start point, then don't. Just send double-spaced, about an inch down from the top, and make sure the book title and your name appears at the top somewhere. :)
