Writing Books/Prologue


I recently read a prologue in a thriller and Chapter One coordinated with the prologue's description of a plane crash.
My prologue has nothing to do with my Chapter One.  My prologue reappears at the crisis point where the words are repeated.  Can I pace a prologue like that?

By its very nature, a prologue is something that takes place before the main action of a novel begins. I wonder if extracting a scene and moving it forward for use as a prologue and then repeating it later will confuse and possibly bore readers. Most readers will assume the prologue is action that took place before the main action happened, so what will they think when they come across it later in the novel?

Creative writing does not have immutable rules and regulations, though, so you can try anything you want, but many people more astute than I may tell you to stick with the intention of a prologue.  Remember the etymology of the word prologue. It comprises two pieces of information: pro-, meaning “before" and logos, meaning "discourse or speech.”
