Writing Books/Jazz Dance

Dear experts:

My name is Sophia Oddi and at the present time I am a seventh grader at Huntington Middle School, San Marino, California. I am part of an elite history class dedicated to National History Day. This is a competition where students select, research, and develop a project related to a national theme.
This year’s theme is “Innovation in History: Impact and Change.” The topic I have selected is Jazz Dance. I have been researching about its roots from Africa, and its impact in the 1900’s-present day. It is my hope that you can share your knowledge about its impact in the United States, or any other information related to my topic. I would be very grateful if you could send me any information such as pictures, books, magazines, or documents.
You can contact me on my email: ,
or at my school:

Thank you very much for your cooperation,
-Sophia Oddi

Hi Sophia,

Although I do not have experience writing jazz dance books, I recommend that you check out or contact:

Dance Theatre of Harlem - http://www.dancetheatreofharlem.com/
Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre - http://alvinailey.org/

You might also find this site helpful as far as jazz dance terminology goes:

And of course, a reference librarian at your local library is also an excellent resource for good books, tapes, etc. you can use for your class project.

All the best!
