QUESTION: Well, is there a way for someone to gain editorial experience through an editorial company that's already set up? If someone is willing to edit for free and just want the experience, I would think there would be companies willing to go for that.
Answer I don't know. It is a good question.
You can check your local area for editorial companies and go in and talk to them about internship. Someone might be willing to take you under their wing and teach you from the "ground up."
Also, go to your local newspaper. Talk to the editor, or assistant editor. Ask if they would consider an internship with them as well.
Tell them you want to learn and become an independent book editor once you have the necessary skills.
