Writing Books/online critique groups

Dear Bobby,
I have concerns about online critiquing groups. I
would like my writing critiqued butÖ.
Can you recommend a good one?
Is my writing safe?
Sincerely, Dick Schlueter

I donít much about any specific groups, but Iíll say this: If you want to be absolutely sure to protect your product, do not post it on a Web site or blog or some such thing. While itís unlikely anyone would use your writing without your knowledge, it is still wise to take precautions. The safest method is to share your writing only with specific people you have already checked out, and then attaching it in personal e-mails to those specific critique partners. By locating, investigating, and getting to know specific critique partners online, you can be sure youíre getting feedback from peers with experience and expertise. Unskilled or downright mean folks can undermine your self-confidence and do more harm than good, so be sure to accept feedback only from people you trust.
