Writing Books/memoir

How do I find an agent?

Hi, Corrine,

Sorry for the delay in responding. I've been out of town for a bit. There are a couple of ways to find an agent. The first way is to go to AgentQuery.com (http://www.agentquery.com). You can search by genre (memoir) or check out an agent you've heard of somewhere else. There's also a terrific link at the top of the main page that will teach you how to write a query letter to an agent.

Another place to go is QueryTracker.net (http://www.querytracker.net). Not only can you search by genre, but by author. So, if you go into the bookstore/library and find a memoir that's similar in style or topic to yours, you can put that author name into the search engine at QueryTracker and it'll tell you the author's agent.

Along with that is a site that will help you find the SCAM agents and publishers--the ones you DON'T want. Predators and Editors (http://www.pred-ed.com) will give you tips on avoiding scams.

Hope that helps! Good luck!
