Question
Hello:

What's the secret to making characters live?

Thank you for any help.

Answer
Jo...good question.  The secret, if there is any, is to give your characters three things...1 - an interesting flaw, no one wants to read about a "perfect" person, 2 - give  your character a "faulty view of life", which of course leads to number 3 - your character must grow and somehow change during the course of the story.

The faulty view needs to make the character do and act in ways that will cause conflict with the other characters...we, the readers, want to watch the character slowly change and not only become a better person, but have this un-realistic belief change so that either s/he will live happily ever after, or they will solve the mystery, find the treasure or perhaps save the world from some terrible problem.
