Writing Books/who to publish / promote book?

Question
Hello:
In the past I have had a local commercial print a booklet that was not promoted properly and I spent a lot of money to have it printed and did not make what I put into it. This time, I would like to have my book printed and promoted. I'm not sure if a publishing house is the place to go since I have created the book "Camera ready" through the computer program Page Maker. I understand most publishers do not work in Page Maker. I feel that I need a book promoter but first . . who to print it? Who could I go to?

Thank you in advance
Yvonne

Answer
I have never self-published, but I know a variety of self-publishhers:

Authorhouse.com
Xlibris.com
booklocker.com
iuniverse.com
trafford.com

I have heard good things about booklocker. You would have to check the sites to see what kind of promotion they do and about Page Maker. Lulu.com is supposed to be free self-publishing so you can check that out. If the self- publisher promotion is not working, you might want to consider advertising on craigslist.org for a publicist. Good luck.
