Question
I have an idea for a graphic novel: a crimefighting musician. What
art form(s) would be good to research so I can develop a plot and soforth? (For example, Bram Stoker studied folklore for Dracula.)
I'm currently studying crime and detective stories.

Answer
Hello Caryn,

You would also have to study the musician's world.  What instrument does he play?  What is band life like?  Is he a classical musician or heavy metal?  Rap? Hip-Hop?  You must decide and then immerse yourself in that world for months to really understand it.

Good luck and happy writing,
Dorothy
