Writing Books/steps in book publications

Hi, I am in the process of writing my first novel.
I need to know what is the next step once the book is completed.  I need to know about editing, publishing, and copy writing.  Where do I send a
copy of my manuscript?  How are the dollars made from the book calculated. Do you have to write a lot of books to make a nice living?  Your expertise is greatly appreciated.

First you have to find a publisher. The book Writers Market lists a variety of publishers. Keep in mind that some publishers require you to have an agent before you can submit anything to them. There's also a list of agents in the book. The money you can make depends on the publisher. Bigger publishers pay a flat fee and royalites which is a percentage of sales. Smaller publishers might just pay royalties. If you can write a book people really want to read or a bestseller, you can make a living. Most book authors have to find another way to make an income either through other types of writing or a regular job.

Good luck!
