Writing Books/titles

Question
Hi, I have a title for my first book. But, how do you know if someone else has not already used this title. I would like for it to be original not to mention legal. Is there a law against using the same title?  Thanks

Answer
Dear Jackson,

That's a good question. The strange truth is, though, that there are literally hundreds, or thousands, of books with identical titles on the market -- a book title can't be copyrighted, but you can trademark a title.

Still, I understand and respect your need for it to be original, so you can search a database (which I've found to be pretty helpful in the past for these kinds of questions) to determine whether your title has already been "taken." Try this link:

Good luck with your book.
