Question I have a BA in Public Relations, and I am taking classes in screenwriting/playwriting/film at MTSU in TN.
I am beginning applications to MFA's in screenwriting. I know this is what I want to do, and I know I need to do this in CA.
I would like to hear you say, as you've said before though, that I definitely need to be in CA for screenwriting (and for graduate school in my case). Should I even apply to programs not in CA if they are good programs (Northwestern looks good, and Celtz.com lits 13 programs in the US, not all in CA).
So far, I'm applying to USC, UCLA, Chapman, AFI, Cal Arts, and LMU. My main question: what other programs in CA or otherwise should I seriously consider? Should I not apply to some of the programs I've just listed? How many programs do you recommend I apply to? 12? more?
This is really what I want to do. I know it, and I'm excited about just being in CA where it all happens. But should I apply to the other top programs not in CA to ensure I get in somewhere? Or should I apply to all programs in CA, even ones not listed as top, just to ensure I'm in CA?
Thanks for reading this question. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Answer I think its a good idea to apply to other schools, not only ones in CA. You want to pick a school that offers what you need, in terms of instruction and professors, and networking...or graduate perks. It's fine you want to be in Los Angles, or CA but what if you don't get in those programs. Look at some other schools as well.
Also if your work is good enough, someone is bound to notice, no matter what school you go to.
