Question Dear Don,
Is there anyone out there that has a service of providing knowledgeable directions to screenwriters in the following manner: After he or she reads your spec screenplay, will, for a fee, provide a list of current production companies, etc., that have the specific need or interest that would match your premise, thus avoiding all that lost time and frustration in submitting a multitude of useless queries.
(I just realized that I'm describing a "Yenta" for screenwriters.)
I do not know if such an "animal" exists. Maybe you do.
Thanks,
Don W.
Answer Dear Don,
One's script must be market ready before one
should go to market with it. Once the script
is ready for market, one can cold call companies
and ask them outright if they are searching for
the premise that they have. On the other hand,
many are unaware of what they need or in which
they have an interest until they see query letters.
Genre and premise can be too specific for some
producers.
Regardless of how creative screenwriters become
in their quest to generate interest in their
screenplays, the traditional query letter can
be very potent if it is appropriately written.
I hope this has been of help to you.
