Writing Plays/Screenwriting - story Vs. script and screenplay

Expert: Don Vasicek - 10/31/2009

Question
Hi, I have a story and would like to know what exactly the difference is between script and screenplay. All I've read is that SP have camera angles and tranistions etc, and I was just looking for script layouts, which don't seem to be as important. do you have any suggestions on what the cheapest, but good software is to write just scripts?

Answer
Todd,

I apologize for taking so long to answer your question.
I've been out of town and just returned.

I'm not a fan of screenwriting software.  The reason
for this is that it reduces the screenwriter's
creative writing to someone who came up with
the software.  To lose one's creative ability to
write without the aid of any technical means,
is more effective in my book.  This approach
causes the writer to reach down further inside
of themselves to come out more original
characterization and story.

There really is no difference between script
and screenplay.  They are used interchangeably.
You can see scripts online by going to your
search engine and simply typing in screenplays.

I hope this has been of help to you.
