Writing Plays/Screenwriting - first time writers

Expert: Anthony T. Carter - 5/21/2009

Question
how much money does a first time screen writer make if their first movie they wrote does well at the box office...also what if i quit my day job to write my next screenplay do screenwriters get health care and if so from where...also do you have to move to hollywood?

Answer
As for salary it varies, depends on how much someone wants your script. And if you are lucky you can get a cut of the box office gross. You shouldn't quit any job that is providing you with income and insurance until you are on your feet as a established screenwriter or artist in general. And no you don't have to move to Hollywood, but it helps but you can also write and work in NYC...
