Question
Hi Don.  I've read most of your answers to most of the questions. you always mention in at least more than half of your responses about getting the script "market ready" and writing a "query letter".  Could you please explain to me what these mean?  Thank you so much!

Answer
Hi, Mary Ann,

Getting a script market ready means that
the script must contain elements
in it to attract producers, agents, actors,
etc.  These elements include dialogue,
characterization, story, pace, genre format,
etc.    Each element that goes into a
screenplay should be scrutinized by a
person experienced in the film business
before it is sent out to anyone.

A query letter is a letter that reduces the
elements of your screenplay into about a
half to a page of what your  screenplay
is about and who you are.  The goal of the
query letter is to persuade agents,
producers, actors, etc. to request to
see your screenplay.  A section in Joan
Wilen and Lydia Wilen's "How To Sell
Your Screenplay" further demonstrates
this along with a sample query letter.

I hope this has been of help to you.

Best Regards,
Don
