Question I have written a complete musical based on the book Pilgrim's Progress. It has been performed by a children's theatre group a few times and has received very good reviews from the public. I have written several other musicals, but feel this one is worthy of publication. Many people have asked for the soundtrack as well as script. What would be the best avenue to publish and market it?
Answer Hi Cynthia,
First, the disclaimer -- I'm not an expert in publishing matters, although I've been published a few times.
It does seem to me that what you've written would appeal to a niche market, but may be difficult to place with a traditional publisher.
There are self-publishing companies that might be a good option for you, and I'd advise you to set aside some time and research self-publishing on the web.
There would also be the issue of the music. If you are the librettist and the composer, with no other artists involved in the writing of the book and the music, then there are no issues, but if you have a collaborator, you need to deal with ownership of the rights.
Sorry I'm not more knowledgeable in this area. I hope you find a way of getting it "out there."
All the best of luck,
Barry
