Writing Plays/Screenwriting - MONTAGE

Expert: Barry Pearson - 9/14/2009

Question
Post the description under MONTAGE or after MUSIC OVER SCENE. NO DIALOGUE
do you just leave white space to account for the action. For example, if the MONTAGE lasts 30 seconds, do you leave half a blank page?

Thanks

Answer
Hi Patty,

Never leave extra white space on a page.  It's just assumed in the industry that standard formatting averages out to 1 minute per page (approximately) all on its own.  The writer does not have to compensate as long as the formatting is standard industry accepted format.

If you have Final Draft, or another commercial program, you don't have to worry much about formatting, but they won't do the whole job for you.  If you want a professional guide to formatting, order my book HOLLYWOOD SCREENPLAY FORMATTING MADE EASY, at
