Question I am a bit confused... although I have been watching X Files for a couple years now, I have not watched it in any sort of chronological order... So, here is my question. In one episode they made reference to the death of Scullys daughter Emily, and in another (2001) she gave birth to a baby boy. Did she have 2 children? Which came first, and was either one Mulders biological child?
Answer OK, you really have to watch the series in chronological order as a lot of information will make very little sense as you watch the shows.
In the fifth series of the show, we had found out that when Scully was abducted by the government, not only did they give her cancer, but they used a technique where they removed all her ova. She is now unable to conceive a child. However, through a turn of events, she is pulled into a family's destruction when the mother is murdered and the father arrested. His three year old daughter is identical to Scully's sister as a child. She wonders if her sister had gotten pregnant and given the child up. After DNA tests, it is proven that in fact Scully herself is Emily's mother.
Emily is an alien/human hybrid, however not a particularly successful one. She was being given daily injections to keep her alive. With her parents dead and Scully battling to gain custody, Emily begins to die. In the end, Scully realises that Emily was never meant to live, that she was part of a government experiment, and that it was better to let her go...
At the end of the seventh series, Mulder is finally abducted by aliens, with us discovering that Scully is, in fact, pregnant. There is a flashback episode in the 8th series called Per Manum, where we see Scully going to an IVF clinic in a hope that she could have a child. When they sound positive and ask her to provide male donor, she asks Mulder. However, the IVF doesn't work and we see nothing else of the pair's relationship.
But at the end of the 8th season, when Scully gives birth, in the final scene, she and Mulder share a passionate kiss in her apartment, the suggestion being that this is indeed his son. By season 9, Mulder has moved in and they are a family, for a time anyway......
