X Files - Opening Credits

Expert: katie haughan - 5/12/2006

Question
What are the objects in the opening credits where it appears that two white objects open up and a 'milk' like substence poors out of them?  It has always driven me crazy and I can't find this information out anywhere I have looked.  Thanks.

Answer
Hi there. Strange question. Its obviously supposed to be some kind of weird phenomena however as far as I know, most effects used for the opening sequences were staged by the crew, apart from the flying saucer footage, that was stock from something else.

I can only imagine that it might be some kind of lava lamp blob inverted and mirrored in such a way that it looks freaky, and put against an atypical x files background.

If it is real footage it could be something to do with orb phenomena, the first sign of an apparition is usually in the form of an orb.

Nevertheless I am not completely sure, however I reckon that it is an effect staged by the crew more than stock footage. Sorry I couldn't help you any more. Any other questions give me a buzz!
