Experience I've watched the series since the episode "The Erlenmyer Flask," the season finale to the first season.
I have a copy of the x-files videos that were released at video stores "the 12 files" i was wondering are they the only episodes that are linked to the main mythology story...
The reason for my question is that in the 12 files i have noticed that a few things seem out of order eg in file 5 or 6 the black x man is killed and then i see him in file 7 ????
I thought that these were the only episodes that link to the main arc but i read a list posted by somone from this site and the listed about 4 episodes in each of the 9 series..
So i guess my question is which episodes are linked to the main story and what is the story with the 12 files are they a breif summary or the complete story

Answer There's a little of the arc in every single episode in the whole show, though some of them don't so much move along the arc as they do add another dimension to the entire mythology aspect of the show.
I would have to say that more mythology episodes start showing up at the end of the 3rd season (the 4th season especially) and beyond. I couldn't tell you which episodes in particular are considered "arc" episodes as I've not even heard of "The 12 Files" boxset that contains them.
