About C.A. Rallo, Esq. / Xena Museum & Athenaeum Expertise I am a serious fan and collector, the owner of the largest individually owned collection of original screen used props, costumes, wardrobe, production material and set decorations from the groundbreaking and iconic series Xena Warrior Princess. I can answer or find the answer to questions regarding episodes, plots, character and actor appearances, the history of the show, the chances of a movie and more. My speciality would be specific questions concerning the identification of props, costumes, accessories and so on from the show, and authentication of them, and I can often provide references to comps to assist in approximating the market value of same.
Experience Many of the pieces in my collection, the XENA MUSEUM & ATHENAEUM can be seen at www.yourprops.com; search for Xena to view my collection listed under "Xena Museum", or you may view the collections of other great fans there as well. Also visit my website, THE XENA MUSEUM & ATHENAEUM at http://xenamuseum.googlepages.com/home. The pieces present there represent only the part of my collection that I have posted so far - more to come! I have done work for props dealers with retail websites and both dealers and individuals on ebay, assisting them with identifying the episode and scene in which a specific prop or wardrobe piece appeared. I have also assisted in evaluating authenticity of props of questionable origin. In addition, I have worked with creators and commissions of one-of-a-kind Xena artist dolls to ensure accuracy in the making of their miniature props and costumes from various episodes. I am an attorney, practice including litigation and environmental law. Not directly related to my Xena expertise but does provide me with many skills.
Question I bought some material to construct Gab's skirt from season 6 (the orangy one that went with the multicolour woven top) I want to make up the skirt (it is already cut to size) and was wondering if you have any idea where I'd get a guide as to how the original was sewn. Thanks :~)
In the past I have worked with designers on replicating Xena and Gab costumes in mini for dolls and generally we use the above site, gather as many pictures as possible, front, back, sides, closeups and so on, and then really study them. There is sometimes some trial and error until things lay just right. I can tell you that Renee typically wore shorts under her short skirted costumes including this one. In the past I have seen the actual costume parts sold and among them was a pair of shorts made of the red/orange velvet fabric. Then over them she wore the skirt. And if you study the screencap images you can see that the green leather was rolled around the edge of the red/orange velvet to trim off the edges.
I myself do not own this costume in its complete state. I have one which has the top made up but the skirt was not sewn up yet. I have the red/orange velvet, the green leather and the metal pieces that decorated the two front side slit seams. Some of the skirt materials are cut and ready for sewing but not all of it. So I am afraid it is not much help for you here. I will check around the costume collecting community and, if I turn up an owner of a complete version of this costume, with let you know any further details if I can.
