A: Yes.
So I think we can assume from his brevity that Al considers himself a Christian but isn't particularly active in his religion.
As to whether he converted, I don't know, but I would hedge a guess and say that someone who simply responds with "Yes" to such a question probably didn't convert. A conversion would make an interesting story.
