Question
Respected Sir,
I am a 23 year old guy and my stammering has deeply wounded me. It is killing my morale and destroying my inner core which i call it confidence.
I have recognized myself of being having a lot of potential and keeping on par with time but this speech impediment has been an obstacle from the time i gained control over my senses till date.
let me try to explain what my actual problem is so that u can suggest me how to proceed.
I occasionally stammer on some words and off late i have been stammering on specific words which start from a specific letter.
when i am isolated in my room and try to pronounce those same set of words which i normally fumble they flow out as smooth as butter.i feel i can speak like a NEWS READER.But when it comes to talking in the public......that's where my true colour unfolds and i start stammering...!!!
I have even tried to banish that i stammer and starting of with a whole new life but it just aint possible to banish those memories.
plzz tell me the possible improvements from joining yoga and meditation.
I appreciate you for volunterely offering a help hand.
Thank you for all the help

Answer
I understand your problem.  In this regard, I would like to have one assurance that you are not suffering from any physiological or structural/anatomical defects in /around buccal cavity.

The solution to your problem needs to have patience and  self-analysis and acceptance.

Presuming that there are not any anatomical problem in the
tongue structures in the buccal cavity, I would like to mention the
following in reference to your query for asanas for curing stammering:

(i) First four breathing exercises of Suksham Vyayama as designed by
Swami Dhirender Brahmachaari.

(ii) Surya Namaskar

(iii) Simhasana (with tongue enlengthened but not with over strain)

(iv) Pranayama - Bhastrika, Naadi-shodhana (presuming that you do not
have any respiratory problem; High B.P or any other circulatory
problem)

(v) Meditation / Progressive Relaxation

(vi) Practice to slow and focus your breath so as to control your
thoughts.

(vi) Positive Attitude to accept and love yourself with gratitutde and
dignity.

Please feel free to write to me for any information on the discipline
of yoga therapy.  Simultaneously, I would also suggest to continue your
search of speech therapist, alongwith some qualified yoga therapist to
have synergistic positive effect on your personality.  He would be able
to deliver speech exercises to rectify the areas where you are getting
problems.

With regards,

Gulshan Kumar
