Question
Hi Melinda, I have a female yorkie and she is 3 years old, she has always been the only dog in the house and doesn't socialize as much when I take her to the dog park, she is very shy. She is a virgin. I'm trying to breed her now and it seems she won't let the male to get close to her. She will try to bite him if he tries to hump her. And then again it was their first meeting. The male is 7 years old and he mated before. I read from the previous posting that its on the 7-13 days of her heat is the best time, but what if she continues her behaviour. Will she ever let the male mate with her? What can I do?

Answer
Julia,

You didn't say what day of the heat cycle your little girl was on.  If she is not between day 7 and 13 then she will not let the male mate with her.  You also didn't say how long they were together when he was trying to mate with her.  I actually would need to ask you several questions in order to access what the possible problems/solutions would be.  There are many important factors that could be involved including whether or not they should even be breeding because of their size differences ( you didn't say how big either of them is).

Occasionally I will take phone calls from people if the questions they have would require a lot of back and forth between us.  This seems to be one of those situations.  I don't give my phone number out on this forum for obvious reasons (I would be swamped with calls).  So if you go to my website at www.petremembrances.com you can find my number listed on the contact page.  I live in the Eastern time zone so please keep that in mind if you call.

If you do not wish to call please try to give me as much detail as possible so I can try to answer your question with more specific solutions to your problem.
