Question
i have a 2 year old male about 5 lbs AKC registered yorkie that i am interested in breeding.  what information do i need to have for the owner of the bitch and what information should i get from them before breeding.  also who makes the decision as in regards to either getting the pick of the litter or breeding fee.

Answer
Elia,

The only thing you would have to have from the other breeder would be the AKC papers.  If you are charging a stud fee you wouldn't need anything.  If you are wanting pick of the litter you would want to see the AKC papers to make sure you were getting a full blooded Yorkie.  If you don't plan to sell or breed the puppy you would not need to see the papers unless for some reason you wanted it to be purebred.  Pick of the litter or a breeding fee is usually up to the individuals to work out.  There is no standard except what the market will bare.

With all of that said I have to tell you that finding someone to breed with will probably not be easy.  At 5 pounds your male is too large to breed with most Yorkie females.  The desired weight for a stud is 2.5 to 3 pounds.  You cannot breed a female to a male that is the same size or larger.  Since most breeders breed females that are between 5 and 7 pounds that would make it very difficult for you to find someone who would be willing to breed with your stud.
