AboutMarilyn Maryn Expertise what I know most about Yosemite is the types of accomodations on the valley floor (I`ve stayed in all of them from the campgrounds to the deluxe Ahwahnee) and the major hiking trails: Vernal Falls, Nevada Falls, Half Dome, Upper Yosemite Falls, and Glacier Point 4 mile trail. If you think this is enough I`d be glad to help.
We'll be visiting Yosemite in late Sept. - early Oct.. We'll be flying to Fresno
and do not want to bring our camping stuff. What's the housekeepng camp
like? Cleanliness? Security? Electric lights and outlets?
Thanks.
Answer Hi Pauline, here's a link to a description and photos of Housekeeping camp: http://www.yosemitepark.com/Accommodations_HousekeepingCamp.aspx
The pictures pretty much show it how it is. They aren't decorated like in the first picture. If you are not bringing sleeping bags, you will have to pay a small fee for sheets and blankets for the beds. If you do that, I recommend bringing your own mattress pad because that's not included with the bedding, and the mattresses are plastic and not that comfortable without a little extra padding. The security is OK. One of the walls of each unit is a canvas curtain, so someone could break in I guess if they really wanted to, but there are always enough people around that I don't think that would happen. You are allowed to drive your car and park right next to your unit, which tends to make the place look overcrowded with cars, as there are over 200 units, all situated farily close to each other. The units by the river have a nice setting. All units have electricity and outlets, but no running water. There is a central bath/shower house that everyone at the camp has to share. The advantage of staying here has is that you are allowed to build a campfire in front of your unit, and cook if you want to. For more comfort and security, you might consider one of the Curry village hard cabins (as opposed to the tent cabins) or a room at Yosemite Lodge. My favorite place to stay is one of the deluxe rooms at Yosemite lodge. They are nicely furnished and have a private patio where you can sit outside at a table and chairs and view the wildlife. Usually there is a nice view of Yosemite Falls, but I'm afraid it's already dry - we didn't have much snow this year, which the falls rely on to remain flowing through the summer.
