Question
We(my husband and our 5yr and 4yr old kids) are planning a trip from LA-Sequoia NP-Yosemite NP -San Francisco-LA in oct. for 1 week. Can you suggest how we make our itinerary...like where to stay, how much time we need to spend in NP,which hike is must considering that we have 2 young kids.
Thanks

Answer
Hello - I don't know much about Sequoia Park, although I've been there once.  If it were me, I would skip that and go to Yosemite if I only had one week.  Sequoia has really big trees, but Yosemite does also.  Depending on money, I'd stay either at the Ahwahnee or the Lodge.  The Yosemite Falls hike (the bottom) is great for very small kids, and you will probably go there for sure.  Bridal Veil falls is also pretty short and great for kids.  I'd also recommend Happy Isles for kids.  You may want to drive to Glacier Point for the best view just about anywhere.  We spend a week a year in Yosemite, and still don't seem to have enough time.  Depending on the age of your kids, there are a myriad of things to do.  If the kids are a little older, you can hike to Vernal Falls on the "mist" trail, but that is around 4 or 5 miles round trip.  Also, there are a couple of Groves of Giant Sequoias in the Park.

Have a great trip,

John
